​Superior Recruitment Group are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of our client based in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear. This is a 3 month fixed term contract.

Role

The Design Engineer will be competent across both Autodesk and Tekla packages and will work on all aspect of conveyors and material handling equipment and supporting structures, producing detailed design drawings for manufacture through our supply chain network. This role requires a driven individual with an eye for detail, is adaptable and driven. Engineering projects can include new product development, current product design updates, cost reduction and standardisation improvements. Working closely with Engineering, Project Management and Procurement teams to ensure that products meet customer needs whilst focusing on quality, cost, and delivery

Role Duties

  • Maximising efficiency using computer-aided design (Autodesk and Tekla) software, 3D modelling, 2D detailed drawings, layouts, schematics, assembly drawings, and technical documents/reports

  • Good knowledge of connections, steel sections, handrails, gratings and related equipment to walkways, stair access and platforms

  • Good knowledge of lifting equipment and foundations

  • Generate detailed drawings from notes, sketches, existing drawings, design concepts, verbal instruction, and engineering specifications

  • Document any changes/updates to designs and ensure any changes are recorded in accordance with the Fairport Engineering change procedure

  • Collaborate effectively with the Engineering and Project teams in design reviews and deliver against planned targets

  • Experienced with checking procedures / peer to peer checks

  • Collaborate with the Mechanical, Technical and Structural teams to optimise designs

  • Ensure that all work conforms to the latest industry standards

  • Taking accountability and ownership of delivering tasks on time, meeting individual and departmental KPIs

Desired Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Autodesk product knowledge, most notably Inventor, FEA, Vault, and AutoCAD (Essential)

  • Tekla design software product knowledge (Essential)

  • >3 years’ experience in bulk material handling (Desirable)

  • Experience in Design/Drawing standards (Essential)

  • Experienced with Microsoft Office software (Essential)

  • An understanding of manufacturing processes, in particular medium to heavy fabrication (Essential)

  • University degree (or equivalent) qualification in Mechanical or Structural Engineering (Desirable)

  • Professional registration in engineering committees and/or technical societies (Desirable)
