​Superior Recruitment Group are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer on behalf of our client based in Stockton-on-Tees. This is a full time permanent role.

Purpose

This job description details responsibilities for the role of Mechanical Engineer reporting to the Senior Mechanical Engineer .

Primary purpose of role

Complete assigned secondments to provide professional mechanical engineering support to all sites in the UK, overseas and offshore, supporting and delivering asset integrity, reliability, statutory compliance, and improvement. To achieve this through the safe, efficient delivery of projects, outage planning and co-ordination, improvements, consultancy, training, and due diligence in line with business requirements.

Major duties

  • In line with secondment requirements, set, implement, and maintain effective mechanical engineering systems, strategies, projects, and processes ensuring required performance and compliance are delivered and maintained.

  • Provide appropriate guidance and hands on support to personnel and customers on mechanical engineering matters including shutdowns, unplanned/planned events, incidents, projects, mods, and improvement activities. Seek technical/SHE guidance when necessary. Stop jobs if unsafe or unsure.

  • Ensure technical documentation (procedures, drawings, instructions, guidance, systems,) are accurately and consistently sourced, stored, updated, and communicated.

  • Assist in providing functional design specifications on agreed existing and new assets.

  • Complete assigned audits communicating outcomes and driving actions.

  • Deliver projects (capital, revenue, improvement & change management,) consistent with project management procedures, ensuring changes are raised and approved via the ‘Management of Change’ process. When required, support client managed projects.

  • Lead and manage assigned , contract and other personnel, setting and maintaining standards. For personnel providing supervision, development, welfare, capability, and competence assessment.

  • Be active in safety schemes providing support, reporting, and implementing actions. To include reporting, investigations, audits, housekeeping and supervision to safe working systems standards and the support of technical safety reviews e.g., HAZOP, LOPA, RBI, process, and functional Safety compliance etc.

  • Provide support to others including central contact and information point on designated matters, delivering technical training, and coaching to support competence at agreed sites and across the business.

  • Represent mechanical interests at cross site functional group meetings and support improvement processes

  • In line with competence and business need.

  • Portray the role of Mechanical Engineer in a positive and professional manner performing under a standard of professional behaviours that requires adherence to the highest principles of ethical conduct.. Remain up to date with engineering best practice, industry trends and legislation maintaining and developing competence.

  • Contract owner for assigned contracts delivering efficiency and performance through performance and quality audit and appropriate KPIs

  • Budget owner for assigned budgets.

  • Research upgrades / new equipment / new techniques / new procedures and contribute ideas and complete actions improving control of work, planning & maintenance systems, process, and actions.

  • Remain up to date with engineering best practice, industry trends and legislation, completing required training and development activities to maintain and develop competence.

Qualifications & Professional Accreditation

  • Essential - HNC/ equivalent in mechanical engineering discipline

  • Desirable - Higher qualification in mechanical discipline. Advanced apprenticeship in mechanical engineering and/or maintenance. IEng equivalent or higher professional qualification. Management certificate.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Essential

  • Successful mechanical engineering contributions in a 24/7 industrial environment including:

  • Maintenance or fault finding.

  • Contract management

  • Outage planning/management

  • Contractor management

  • Engineering & Operational interface

  • Developing, implementing & evaluating improvements & mods.

  • Management of change application

  • Managing budgets and projects.

  • Knowledge of: SHEQ systems / CMMS / Full project lifecycle / PSSR

  • Reading & interpreting design specifications & technical drawings.

Desirable

  • Working at and contributing to a Top Tier COMAH Site

  • Risk management/assessment processes including PHSSERs, HAZID/HAZOP, FMEA/Root Cause, Criticality Assessments

  • Experience of working with steam and gas turbines.

  • ISO55001 (Asset management) & ISO 9001

  • Knowledge/application of: PSSR, SPR, LOLER, PUWER / Functional Safety / Process Safety Management

  • Line Management

  • Auditing

  • Systems Experience: Project, P3 or similar / Project design tools / modelling software

Miscellaneous

  • Hours of work – Days. Additional hours in line with business need.

  • Prepared to travel / stay overnight, to complete role & responsibilities.

  • Prepared to contribute to UK, overseas and offshore secondments & additional business projects.

  • Contributes to appropriate secondments & business projects.

  • Right to work in the UK.
