Superior Recruitment Group are looking for an experienced Mechanical Project Engineer on behalf of our client based in Saltend. This is a full time permanent role.
This job description details responsibilities for the Mechanical Project Engineer, reporting to the Project Engineering Manager.
Primary purpose of role
It is the responsibility of the Mechanical Project Engineer to work on modifications, projects and be the project authority on Mechanical deliverables on site. To achieve this through the safe, efficient delivery of projects, outage planning and co-ordination, improvements, and due diligence in line with business requirements. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate strong engineering design expertise, having worked in all project phases from concept, FEED, detail design, construction, commissioning, and completions.
Deliver projects (capital, revenue, improvement & change management,) consistent with project management procedures. Ensuring changes are raised and approved via the client ‘Management of Change’ process. When required, support client managed projects. Prepare technical equipment specifications and datasheets for both rotating and static equipment, including but not limited to pumps, fans, pressure vessels, columns, heat exchangers, tanks, filters etc. Undertake formal technical bid evaluations, support supplier clarification meetings and present findings to both the client and senior management. Manage supplier post order delivery, chairing progress meetings, coordinating factory acceptance testing and inspection visits. Site visits to client facilities to review existing equipment and proposed modifications. Rigorously review post order vendor documentation and take a lead in resolving technical issues across multiple disciplines and driving the technical solutions to completion. Execute assigned work in accordance with the applicable project procedures, standards, and regulations. Management of workload and budgets across designated work scopes to ensure successful delivery. Understand, review and comment on process design data to support equipment specification and selection. Manage project documentation effectively, ensuring all disciplines receive the quality information at the right time. Ensure technical documentation and deliverables (procedures, drawings, instructions, guidance, systems,) are accurately and consistently sourced, stored, updated, and communicated. Assist in providing functional design specifications on agreed existing and new assets. Lead and manage assigned , contract and other personnel, setting and maintaining standards. Be active in safety schemes providing support, reporting, and implementing actions. To include: reporting, investigations, audits, housekeeping and supervision to safe working systems standards and the support of technical safety reviews e.g. HAZOP, LOPA, RBI, functional Safety compliance etc. Represent mechanical interests at cross site functional group meetings and support improvement processes in line with competence and business need. Portray the role of Mechanical Project Engineer in a positive, professional manner. Remain up to date with engineering best practice, industry trends and legislation maintaining and developing competence. Actively support the plant safety schemes such as Near Hits or Incident reports, providing support where required and actively implementing any recommendations arising from any such report.
Qualifications & Professional Accreditation
Essential -Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
Desirable - Time served apprenticeship in Mechanical Discipline CEng / IEng professional registered of a professional institution (i.e. IET, ImechE, IchemE)
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Successful contribution & experience in a 24/7 High Hazard, COMAH, MAH industrial environment. To include: - Maintenance & contract management, Inspection, testing & compliance, Outage planning & management, Functional design specification, Operations interface, policies & procedure, Legislative & best practice standards, good working knowledge of Mechanical methods, materials & equipment used in maintaining and operating a high hazard plant. Significant static, rotating and package equipment design experience. Process safety awareness. Good working knowledge of mechanical international design codes and regulatory requirements for both static and rotating equipment (PD 5500, AP1650/620, API 610, API 682, PESR, DSEAR, ASME VIII, ASME B31.3, CDM etc.) Track record of providing detailed mechanical engineering input to asset modification, new asset design (specification and vendor selection). Develop, implement & evaluate systems, upgrades, improvements & modifications. Reading & interpreting design specifications & technical drawings. Large scale project design experience (Concept, FEED, detailed design, construct, pre commissioning, commissioning and completions.) Has played a lead role in the development and delivery of Management of Change using approved methods and engineering assurance practices, ensuring any deviations are appropriately authorised. Experienced in vendor management and project coordination. Experienced in supporting engineering design reviews (HAZOP, model reviews, risk reviews etc) Working cross functionally – individually & in a team delivering policies, initiatives & compliance to meet business requirements. Building & maintaining effective, relationships with customers & contractors. Quality systems, standards & application. Working knowledge of SHE systems including Permit to Work, Safe Systems of Work and risk management
Working knowledge of ISO55001 (Asset Management) & ISO9001 (Quality Management) Knowledge & application of PSSR, LOLER & PUWER regulations.
