​Superior Recruitment Group are looking for an experienced Operations Technician on behalf of our client based in Beckton. This is a full time staff position.

Primary purpose of role

A member of a shift team responsible for the safe, efficient operation, maintenance & improvement of the CHiP in line with business and statutory needs. This is a dual operational and maintenance role.

Major duties

  • Following targets & direction from the Operations Supervisor or Plant Manager, ensure safe, environmental & statutory compliant CHiP operation and maintenance to meet and mitigate the CHiP operating requirements.

  • Monitoring, inspecting, and controlling plant parameters & providing appropriate first line maintenance.

  • Interpret and control plant operations through general plant and data presented via a DCS.

  • Identify, assist & respond effectively to operational demands achieving safe, efficient generation within prescribed limits during routine, foreseeable deviation, and emergency operating conditions.

  • Provide plant systems(s) start up and shutdown services and participate in emergency shutdown procedures.

  • Identify and immediately report plant defects, observations and anomalies that have, or have the potential to affect the safety of the process or which are noted to be abnormal to usual operations.

  • Complete plant routine duties maintaining commercial performance, availability, and reliability.

  • Complete assigned safety duties including safe systems of work, setting people to work & housekeeping.

  • Assist the Operations Supervisor and other designated personnel on projects and outage preparation.

  • Control raw material offloading including road tanker fuel, oil, and Urea.

  • Ensure each product is diverted to the dedicated storage tanks & sampling activities are conducted & documented enabling Ofgem compliance.

  • Complete required training to develop and maintain competence in completion of required job responsibilities including to HV authorised person under the safe systems of work requirements.

  • In line with business & statutory requirements, develop & maintain documentation, records & procedures.

  • Provide relevant operational advice and guidance to other Operations and Beckton CHiP team members.

  • Positively present the role & the Operations Department to the business, its contractors, and customers.

Qualifications & Professional Accreditation

  • Essential – Time served apprenticeship (NVQ 3) in an engineering or process discipline.

  • Desirable - HNC or equivalent in EC&I, mechanical or process discipline. IOSH or equivalent qual.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience


Contributing to continuous process /production/ operational environments. First line maintenance. Following procedures, systems & processes. Working to targets. Working a shift pattern. Supporting planning & outage management. Fault finding, route cause analysis, problem solving, data monitoring. Makes practical recommendations to continually improve operations. Safe System of Work processes & procedures Permit to work: risk assessments & method statements. Incident/emergency control/response Microsoft Office: word, excel & email


Power plant operational experience & knowledge. Power plant generating units, Marine diesel engines or turbo expander units operations & maintenance. Electrical Switching. Commissioning. Developing and reviewing operational procedures. Maintaining relationships, with customers, contractors & authorities. Commercial awareness of the energy market- legislation & regulations. Safety Rules authorisation. IOSH Managing Safely Quality systems, processes & standards Data management systems Team Leader experience.
