​Superior Recruitment Group are looking for an experienced Principle Process Safety Engineer on behalf of our client based in Stockton-on-Tees. This is a full time permanent role.

Primary purpose of role

Ensure Process and Process Safety risk management, compliance & governance are understood and managed in line with best practice and regulatory engineering practices, standards, and processes across all operations. Provide Process Engineering governance, support, guidance & action completion for operations, capital projects & Engineering.

Major duties

  • Lead the understanding of process & process safety management systems, ensuring engineering related risks to people, environment, plant & business are understood & managed systematically & effectively.

  • Provide company-wide discipline governance, assurance, compliance and risk identification and quantification.

  • Provide discipline support and alignment with the SRAM, supporting the development of site COMAH safety reports and subsequent re-writes

  • Work effectively and positively with all employees and contractors promoting a positive safety culture and high awareness of process safety.

  • Support process engineering capability across the client & as required engineering resourcing and development – both client and third-party contract support for technical assurance and other activities

  • Establish and maintain required discipline engineering practices, standards, and processes in line with legislative requirements and good engineering practice.

  • Lead cross site discipline engineering networks (Process/Process safety and MOC) sharing best practice and alignment across the discipline.

  • Provide, guidance and support enabling sites to establish & maintain site specific (level 3) discipline engineering practices, standards, and processes.

  • Provide or lead procurement of suitable and sufficient discipline engineering verification for studies, process safety support for projects and modifications and provide technical assurance as required to operations.

  • Lead process assurance activities delivering compliance with level 2 engineering practices, standards, and processes.

  • Monitor audit conclusions for wider group learning and follow-up actions.

  • Participate in other audit or assurance activities as requested by the regulatory authority.

  • Monitor and modify as applicable operational site performance indicators enabling oversight of risk management processes.

  • Participate in reviews and root cause analysis for incidents or serious near miss events.

  • Provide discipline engineering guidance and mentoring as required and support the competence development for the sites discipline engineers.

  • Review and endorse deviations from a performance standard where appropriate.

  • Positively represent client at relevant internal and external forums, providing positive contributions & incorporating wider best practice & learning into client discipline engineering practices, standards and processes.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Membership of an institute

  • Knowledge and experience working in & with 24/7, high hazard & highly regulated Operational assets.

  • Knowledge & application of: - COMAH (Process Safety & Predictive Guidance) - DSEAR Regulations - HAZID & HAZOPs - Process Hazard Review - Hierarchical approach to Major Accident Hazards - Layer Of Protection Analysis - Safe Operating Limits - Occupied Buildings R. A. - Fire and Explosion R.A. - Over pressure prevention & protection - Primary, secondary & tertiary containment measures Process simulation (HYSYS)
