Superior Recruitment Group are looking for an experienced Senior EC&I Engineer on behalf of our client based in Stockton-on-Tees. This is a full time permanent role.
This job description details responsibilities for the role of Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer reporting to the Site Director Energy & Renewables.
Primary purpose of role
Complete assigned secondments to provide professional electrical engineering support to sites in the UK, overseas and offshore, supporting and delivering asset integrity, reliability, statutory compliance, and improvement. To achieve this through the safe, efficient delivery of projects, outage planning and co-ordination, improvements, consultancy, training, and due diligence in line with business requirements. As well as support proposal development for new business, consultancy, due diligence, project, and outage management.
In line with secondment requirements, set, implement, and maintain effective electrical, control & instrumentation engineering systems, strategies, projects, and processes ensuring required performance and compliance in line with codes and regulatory requirements across sites. When required, providing technical support and training to maintenance and operations
Provide appropriate guidance and hands on support to personnel and customers on electrical, control & instrumentation engineering matters including shutdowns, unplanned/planned events, incidents, projects, modifications, and improvement activities. Seek technical/SHE guidance when necessary. Stop jobs if unsafe or unsure.
Ensure technical documentation (procedures, drawings, instructions, guidance, systems,) are accurately and consistently sourced, stored, updated, and communicated.
Assist in providing functional design specifications on agreed existing and new assets.
Complete assigned audits communicating outcomes and driving actions.
Deliver projects (capital, revenue, improvement & change management,) consistent with project management procedures, ensuring changes are raised and approved via the ‘Management of Change’ process. When required, support client managed projects.
Lead and manage assigned , contract and other personnel, setting and maintaining standards. For personnel providing supervision, development, welfare, capability, and competence assessment.
Be active in safety schemes providing support, reporting, and implementing actions. To include reporting, investigations, audits, housekeeping, and supervision to safe working systems standards and the support of technical safety reviews e.g., HAZOP, LOPA, RBI, functional Safety compliance etc.
Complete audits meeting all compliance requirements, communicating outcomes, supporting & driving actions.
Provide support to others including central contact and information point on designated matters, delivering technical training, and coaching to support competence.
Represent electrical, control & instrumentation interests at cross site functional group meetings and support improvement processes in line with competence and business need.
Portray the role of Electrical, control & instrumentation Engineer in a positive, professional manner. Remain up to date with engineering best practice, industry trends and legislation maintaining and developing competence.
Contract owner for assigned contracts delivering efficiency and performance through performance and quality audit and appropriate KPIs
Budget owner for assigned budgets.
Research upgrades / new equipment / new techniques / new procedures and contribute ideas and complete actions improving control of work, planning & maintenance systems, process, and actions.
Remain up to date with engineering best practice, industry trends and legislation, completing required training and development activities to maintain and develop competence.
Qualifications & Professional Accreditation
Essential - HNC or equivalent in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Instrumentation and Control Engineering. Advanced apprenticeship in electrical and/or instrumentation engineering and/or maintenance.
Desirable - Degree (or higher) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Instrumentation and Control Engineering. IEng (or higher) professional registration. FS Engineer (TUV Rheinland) certificated
NEBOSH General Certification, Management certificate
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
Successful electrical, control or instrumentation contributions in a 24/7 industrial environment including:
Maintenance or fault finding.
Engineering & Operational interface
Developing, implementing & evaluating improvements & mods.
Management of change application
Managing budgets and projects.
Knowledge of: HSE regulations (relevant) / Safe Systems of Work / CMMS / Full project lifecycle / Electricity At Work Regs.
Experience in people management proving successful methods, cultures, and development of teams.
Working cross functionally delivering policies, initiatives & compliance with company & legislative requirements.
Experience of working on and controlling significant site-based modifications and projects.
Internal audit of standards and procedures.
Reading & interpreting design specifications & technical drawings.
Working at and contributing to a Top Tier COMAH Site
Risk management/assessment processes including PHSSERs, HAZID/HAZOP, FMEA/Root Cause, Criticality Assessments
Contributing to business improvement & knowledge sharing forums
ISO55001 (Asset management), ISO14001 (Environmental Management) & ISO 9001 (Quality Management)
Knowledge & application of:
HV switching and control – operation and planning of.
Distributed Control Systems
HV electrical equipment: motors, transformers, switchgear & generators.
HV protection schemes.
HV equipment testing.
IACS Cyber security
Project design experience (FEED, deign calcs, pre, during & post commissioning.)
Managing budgets & meeting key financial performance indicators. Development of Revenue and Capital papers to secure funding
Project, P3 or similar.
Project design tools
ETAP / distribution modelling software
Knowledge and application of Management of Change Processes.
Understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM).
COMPEX Ex14 or Ex12
Hours of work – Days. Additional hours in line with business need.
Prepared to travel / stay overnight, to complete role & responsibilities. (Rule of thumb 80% time)
Prepared to contribute to UK, overseas and offshore secondments & additional business projects.
