Superior Recruitment Group are looking for an experience Senior Scientist (Industrial Chemicals) on behalf of our client based in Salisbury, North Carolina. This is a full time staff position.
The Senior Scientist will be part of the Industrial Chemicals technical team and will lead technical activity for support of our client's products in the Americas region. This position is for a detail-oriented individual who can manage and organize data on numerous lab activities, be able to multi-task and problem solve, while maintaining a clear sense of priorities and focus. Key responsibilities include providing technical service to customers and distributors; the development of new formulations to meet customer needs and generally demonstrate the utilities of our client's products; participation in the optimization of the quality and performance of existing products, and in technical marketing and training for the product lines. An ideal candidate will have a unique blend of hands-on experience in formulation and performance testing, skills in organic chemistry with the ability to provide technical expertise in written and oral presentations. Candidates with experience working with surfactants and, more specifically, ingredients used for industrial applications including emulsion polymers, wallboard manufacture and construction chemicals is desired.
Provide general customer technical service and in the development of innovative new product technologies and example formulations for the industrial market.
Provide customer support related to the adoption and use of new products, solutions to customer concerns and including travel to customer sites as needed.
Develop and co-ordinate training and sales tools to support the current and new product lines to customers and the sales force.
Assist with the scale-up and commercialization of new products including preparation of performance blends, formulation examples and making tests to highlight product features
Effectively communicate with other Performance Chemical technical teams and other technical departments (synthesis, analytical, regulatory, R&D, etc.) to support the project activities.
Represent our client at selected Industrial Associations and Trade Shows being recognised as an expert in your field
Maintain an awareness of competitor technologies, technical literature and patents relevant to our client's Industrial business and use this knowledge to suggest strategies and technical work which could give our client competitive advantage.
Maintain the day-to-day technical customer support through lab work performing standard laboratory analytical and application tests.
Collect analytical and performance data on existing product portfolio.
Develop formulations for the promotion of our client's product and produce developmental samples on Lab and Pilot scale.
Keep accurate records of the day-to-day lab activities, issue detailed technical reports in a reasonable time frame.
Participate in customer meetings, either via calls or on-site visits, to develop projects and help solve application technical issues involving our products.
Qualification and Skills Requirements
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Degrees in other scientific disciplines will be considered with an advanced degree in a relevant field a plus.
5 – 10 years of experience in the industry with a proven track record
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Travel will be required, with up to 20% of time for travel to customers and trade shows.
Possess creativity, self-motivation and the ability to work both in a team and under own initiative.
